ACA Instructor Course

GIRLS AT PLAY/ACA L4 and L5 INSTRUCTOR COURSES

Learn to teach whitewater kayaking from Anna Levesque, founder of Girls at Play,  ACA Instructor Trainer and one of the best whitewater kayak instructors in the world!  In addition to her L4 whitewater kayak instructor course, Anna is teaming up with Robin Pope to offer an L5 Advanced Whitewater Kayaking Instructor Course in 2015.

Take your personal paddling skills to the next level while learning proven and effective techniques for teaching others. The benefit of taking your instructor course with Anna, a professional instructor and former competitor, is the opportunity to tap into tens of thousands of hours of teaching and padding experience. Not only is Anna a whitewater kayak instructor, but also a yoga teacher and a facilitator of personal transformation workshops. Her teaching philosophy is unique and has placed her as a leader in her field. In addition to learning the hard skills of stroke and river running technique, you’ll also learn specific techniques for teaching women, strategies for successfully teaching fearful students and tools for instilling confidence in yourself and your students.

Men and women are welcome to take this course! Here is a link to ACA requirements and expectations for L4 Whitewater Kayaking: http://c.ymcdn.com/sites/www.americancanoe.org/resource/resmgr/sei-courses/l4_wwk_skills.pdf

And L5 Advanced Whitewater Kayaking: http://c.ymcdn.com/sites/www.americancanoe.org/resource/resmgr/sei-courses/l5_awwk_skills.pdf

We offer two course format options for L4:  There is the two weekend option where the course will be separated into two weekend clinics a month apart. The time between courses gives the students a chance to process and practice what they are learning. The first weekend will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday and end around 4 p.m. on Sunday.  The second weekend will start Friday morning and run until Sunday around 4 p.m. You must complete both weekends to receive ACA certification.

The second option is our Intensive which offers the entire course over 5 consecutive days. This is ideal for instructor candidates who are traveling long distances to take the course.

If you already have an up-to-date ACA Certification we also offer Instructor Updates.
