GIRLS AT PLAY CREEK WEEK
“One of the best paddling weeks of my life! Learned tons and had an absolute blast!” – Nathalie Griffith, MN
“I had an amazing time at Creek Week. I felt such comradery with talented, confident and capable women paddlers. Loved it!” — Susan Cherry, CO
As experienced female paddlers we know what it feels like to be the only woman paddling with a group of guys on steep creeks. It can be a lot of fun and it can also be intimidating. That intimidation factor comes from the different ways that men and women deal with challenging situations. There is scientific evidence that women experience a different stress response than men leading women to seek out strong support systems (especially with other women) when facing challenges. This is one of the reasons why womens clinics are so powerful in building confidence and why we feel that our creek week is a great way to build your creeking confidence and skills. Our instructors are the best female creeking instructors in the world and our base in Asheville, NC is close to some of the best class IV creeks in the country. Join us and challenge yourself in a supportive, understanding environment that will transform your confidence and your skills.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT CREEK WEEK BEFORE BOOKING
~ The goal of Creek Week is to step up your paddling to Class IV. To maximize your experience we ask that you be prepared to start off the week paddling Class III + and finish off the week paddling solid Class IV. If you have any questions about what this means please contact us to discuss.
~ If you book into this course we are assuming that you are confident and comfortable paddling and combat rolling in class III + whitewater and have a suitable creek boat (we have boats available). We ask that you take responsibility in correctly and realistically assessing your own skill level. After the course has started if we determine that you do not meet the above requirements Girls at Play is not obligated to offer easier alternatives that split the group up (for safety reasons), nor is Girls at Play obligated to refund any part of the course fee.
~ Paddling Class III+/IV is intense physically, emotionally and mentally. We ask that you have the physical stamina to paddle at a high level for between 4 and 6 hours per day. We also ask that you come prepared to challenge yourself emotionally and mentally. Stepping up your skill level isn’t always easy and in our experience participants feel a wide range of emotions during the course of the week from joy and awesomeness to disappointment and frustration. We ask that you come in willing to be gentle with yourself and others throughout the process. We also ask that you be willing to take in the entire experience as it is all valuable in making you a better paddler and helping you to grow as a person. We will be there to guide and assist you to the best of our ability!
